Lemon & Clove Homemade Deodorant Recipe

If you’re reading this post you’re probably thinking one of two things. 1) This girl is crazy—I would never make my own deodorant or 2) This girl is crazy— but I wonder what this homemade deodorant thing is all about? Either way, my experience with organic, clean, aluminum zirconium-free deodorant was so wonderful that I decided to make my own. Don’t want to make your own, but interested in trying it? Notes

  • Recipe Yields: ~3-4 ounces
  • Prep Time: Less than 5 minutes
  • Notes: Feel free to experiment with different essential oils for different scents! Try lemongrass, tea tree, jasmine, peppermint, lime and geranium.
    Homemade Deodorant in Bowl

    Mixing up some all-natural deodorant

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • ¼ cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch
  • 5 Tbsp. coconut oil
  • 5 drops essential lemon oil
  • 5 drops essential clove oil

Preparation

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, mix together baking soda, arrowroot powder and coconut oil.
  2. Add lemon and clove essential oils and mix again.
  3. Scoop into jars and voila! You’re done!

I make our deodorants too!!! So cool! Thanks for sharing this.. Now I have a new scent. Mine is lavander.

what can one use besides coconut oil? not sure I can get that. does this need to be refrigerated?

Hi Brenda! I really highly recommend using the coconut oil, as it is a main ingredient. I'm not sure where you are located, but you can buy it at most grocery stores, definitely at health food/specialty grocery stores and of course online. (Google it or buy it online from amazon.com). Refrigeration is not a requirement. The oil and the product will be solid with refrigeration which is great if you are storing it for a long period of time but it makes application difficult. I would store and use at room temperature.
